Treatment of Proximal Femoral Fractures in Children Delbet Type II by Ilizarov Technique

چکیده

Hip fractures rarely occur in children but when it occurs it is potentially very serious. Fracture in children is due to high velocity trauma, for example falling from a height or a car accident. Among the high risk complications we can get avascular necrosis, premature physeal closure and coxa vara when we use screws. Between the age of 4 and 9 the ligamentous teres contributes very little to the blood supply of the epiphysis, hence it is prone to post traumatic ischaemia. We treated a 10 years old boy who fell from height and admitted in Bari-Ilizarov Orthopaedic Centre on 02.06.2017, 3 months back. We treated the boy within 18 hours as urgency by Ilizarov technique under image intensifier by closed reduction and fixation with 1.5 mm 6 multiple Ilizarov wires. These Ilizarov wires were fixed with 6 hole plates which was fixed with two full rings, placed in the lower region of femur.

Type II Intertrochanteric Fractures: Proximal Femoral Nailing (PFN) Versus Dynamic Hip Screw(DHS)

Background: Intertrochanteric fracture is one of the most common fractures of the hip especially in the elderly with osteoporotic bones, usually due to low-energy trauma like simple falls. Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) is still considered the gold standard for treating intertrochanteric fractures by many. Not many studies compare the DHS with Proximal femoral nail (PFN), in Type II intertrochanteri...

Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing of Femoral Shaft Fracture-Experience in 48 Children

Background: Femoral shaft fractures are an incapacitating pediatric injury accounting for 1.6% of all pediatric bonyinjuries. Management of these fractures is largely directed by age, fracture pattern, associated injuries, built of the childand socioeconomic status of the family. We retrospectively evaluated the use of elastic stable intramedullary nail (ESIN)in surgical management of femoral s...

Management of proximal femoral fractures using the Ilizarov principles.

External fixation can be an exceptional relief solution in the treatment of proximal femoral fractures. We would like to share our experience using external fixation techniques with either the Ilizarov frame or Hofmann system in 23 patients with complicated fractures.

Hip fractures in children.

Hip fractures account for <1% of all pediatric fractures. Most are caused by high-energy mechanisms, but pathologic hip fractures also occur, usually from low-energy trauma. Complications occur at a high rate because the vascular and osseous anatomy of the child's proximal femur is vulnerable to injury. Surgical options vary based on the child's age, Delbet classification type, and degree of di...

The Ilizarov external fixator - a useful alternative for the treatment of proximal tibial fractures A prospective observational study of 30 consecutive patients

BACKGROUND In dislocated proximal tibial fractures, the most frequently used treatment is ORIF with screws and plates. Minimally-invasive techniques using external fixation are an alternative. The aim of this study was to analyse the clinical and radiological results using the Ilizarov technique in both uni- and bicondylar tibial fractures. METHODS Thirty consecutive patients with isolated fr...
